Amy Christmas, M.D.
Amy Christmas, M.D. is a general ophthalmologist that has practiced medicine on the Eastern Shore and Mobile area for over twelve years. She was born and raised in Houston, Texas and then moved to New Orleans initially to purse a degree in music at Loyola University. She quickly decided to focus her sights on a career in medicine and ultimately received a her BA in psychology at Loyola with honors. She then returned to her hometown for medical school at University of Texas Health Science Center Houston where she spent her free time working and volunteering for low vision and ocularist clinics. Her first true exposure to Lower Alabama came when she moved to Mobile to do a internal medicine internship at University of South Alabama with no intentions of staying. Soon after returning to Texas to complete few three years of ophthalmology training at University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio she realized that she wanted to return to the Alabama Gulf Coast-which she did.
Dr. Christmas enjoys her general ophthalmology practice and the wide-range of care she is able to provide for her patients. She offers basic eye exams for all ages including diabetic, macular degeneration, and glaucoma screening.
She offers a range of refractive services including contact lens fitting, PRK, and LASIK. State of the art cataractsurgery is performed in our ambulatory surgery clinic in our Fairhope office.
Dr. Christmas is currently a resident of Fairhope and stays busy in the community with her husband and three kids. Her free time is spent traveling, running and training for triathlons.
Peter Zloty, M.D.
Dr. Peter Zloty is a board certified and fellowship trained ophthalmologist specializing in Corneal Transplants, Refractive Surgery and Cataracts. He is also fellowship-trained in the treatment of Corneal & External Disease and has significant experience in performing surgical procedures, such as corneal transplants and lamellar techniques, including DSAEK, DMEK and DALK.
Dr. Zloty attended Rensselaer in Troy, NY in an accelerated undergraduate degree program in biomedicine. He then transferred to the Albany Medical College in Albany, NY earning a B.S. in 1982 and M.D. in 1984. After medical school he interned at the Albany Medical Center Hospital. Next, an active duty tour in the U.S. Navy earned him the rank of Lieutenant Commander and a Sea Service Medal. Active duty service was performed stateside in the Newport Naval Hospital Emergency Medicine Department and Brig Medical Service, and at sea as an intensive care physician. Dr. Zloty then returned to Albany for a 3-year residency in ophthalmology. He was then hired as a clinical instructor, staffing the first year residents clinic, and concurrently served as a fellow in Corneal and External disease, under Michael W. Belin, M.D.
While in private practice in Dothan, Alabama he continued to teach externs from The UAB School of Optometry, as well as national and international courses and symposia. He is an instructor at the American Academy of Ophthalmology Annual Meeting for the Boston keratoprosthesis and has lectured on both a national and international level and has contributed several publications to research and technology in his specialized field.
